KICK ASS RADIO THAT TASTES GREAT

About The Hosts

A native Houstonian, Chef Bryan Caswell spent most of his childhood on the Gulf Coast waters—fishing, hunting and boating. Today, Caswell is still an avid outdoorsman and his intense fascination with fishing is reflected in his cooking and on his menus. No other Texas restaurant showcases as many species of Gulf Coast fish as Caswell’s award-winning REEF.

In 2009, Bryan along with his business partner Bill Floyd launched
Little Bigs, a casual burger joint and wine bar in Montrose that became an overnight success.  The same year, Bryan was award Best New Chef by Food & Wine Magazine.

Lance Zierlein
grew up in Houston and has been a fixture on Houston radio since 1994. He began his career as a football and basketball analyst and prognosticator in five different cities including Houston and began hosting a weekend sports talk show in 1995.

In 1997, Lance was moved into the morning drive-time show and was one of the youngest “drive-time” hosts in the country. Since then, Lance’s show with John Granato on 1560 The Game has been the highest rated sports talk show in Houston.

Frank Bullington is the Production Director of 1560 The Game radio in Houston where he was raised.  After 10 years as a marketing director for a student travel company,  Frank switched careers and followed his passions of wine and music, managing the original Tasting Room in Uptown Park, while playing drums for the Houston Rockets and Texans.  He left the Tasting Room to sell fine wine wholesale for Prestige Wines, a Texas based company with an eclectic and diverse wine portfolio.  He spent the majority of his time in the fine dining establishments around Houston and in the Woodlands.  It was during this time his best friend managed to lure him away from his wine career to begin a new one in radio.  Always wanting to combine his love of food, wine and radio, Frank is proud to be a member of the Southbound Food team and will continue to ensure that the ‘show kicks ass.’  Follow Frank on twitter: @fbullington

Danny Vara wasn’t ever named Best New Chef.  Danny doesn’t host the top-rated sports talk morning show.  Danny has never founded a wildly successful local food fanatic group.  Danny doesn’t know the difference between Charles Smith’s wines and Boone’s Strawberry Hill (green apple personal favorite).  Danny has, however, worked in several restaurants and radio stations for crap pay so I guess that qualifies him for Southbound Food?

The native Houstonian graduated from the football factory known as the University of Houston with a degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering…or Radio/Television...one of those.  He then used that to snag himself a slightly-above-minimum-wage, part-time job at Sports (yawn) Radio 610 and then joined 1560 The Game for the money.  Yeah, that’s a good one.  Danny watches way too much television, spends way too much money at Central Market, but loves cooking more than his girlfriend (please don’t tell his girlfriend).  Oh he also writes about pop culture items at the aptly blog named Danny's Diatribe.  And Danny's not on twitter.  He prefers to be stalked in person.
